Don't let this opportunity pass you up: local band Leisure Birds is playing a show tonight at the Hexagon Bar, one of not many in the near future if their MySpace page is truly up to date. Either way, this quartet of shaggy men make some excellent fuzzed out, psychedelic rock tunes drawing comparisons in my mind to The Kinks (for pure pop sensibilities) and notable Bay area bands like The Fresh & Onlys, Ty Segall, and Thee Oh Sees who excel in that distinct, experimental garage rock sound.

Easily one of the better, albeit shamefully underrated, bands in the Twin Cities, they'll hopefully get more attention as the opening track on the new Regolith Vol. 1 compilation put out by Moon Glyph a few weeks back. That release, which can be read about here, features a genre in this region receiving increasingly more attention and gives bands like Dante & the Lobster, Magic Castles, Daughters of the Sun, and Vampire Hands a chance to really break out.

If you're interested (and you should be), here's the rundown:

Leisure Birds are playing with Burnt Ones, Pony Tales, and American Cream tonight at 9PM at the Hexagon Bar in South Minneapolis.
