Weekend Checklist: Happy Birthday, Dynamiters, Blind Shake, and a birthday party
![]() |
FRIDAY
Show of the night has to be Triple Rock hosting SubPop recording artists Happy Birthday, (from Vermont, featuring members of King Tuff). This band's infectious 60's garage-influenced pop is smart, wry, sincere, catchy, and rocking all at the same time. With Residual Echoes and Voytek, 18+, 9 PM, $8.00.
Need to hit more than one spot? Looking for something a little more folky, a little more Americana? Head east to the Turf Club for the Jennifer Markey & The Tennessee Snowpants CD release show, with guests Ol' Yeller and The Gleam, 21+, 9 PM, $5.00.
Or, head west to 7th Street Entry for Northern Howl, 18+, 9 PM, $6.
SATURDAY
The Turf Club is hosting a no-cover-charge party/wedding reception for Jess and Dusty (the Hold Steady's guitar tech), and with heavy hitters The Dynamiters and The Blind Shake playing, there's never been a better wedding reception to crash. Dusty's band Voytek is also rumored to be playing, if they aren't too drunk, and the ever mysterious Very Special Guests. 21+, 9 PM, FREE!
7th Street Entry hosts Milwaukee's Brief Candles, 18+, 9 PM, $8.
Kings Go Forth and Chooglin' are rocking the walls of the Cedar Cultural Center down, AA, 7 PM, $12.
SUNDAY
On this day of rest, head down to the Triple Rock for the 8/2 Crew bash, a celebration of everyone born on August 2nd (including bartender/D4 guitarist Billy Morrisette, and door guy Big Dave), and join the fun of burning off the last few hours before their mutual birthday.
