Watch BET's "My Mic Sounds Nice" documentary on women in rap

How serendipitous that so close to the B-Girl Be Carnival, our Cities' celebration of everything female in hip-hop, BET would stream their documentary My Mic Sounds Nice, a canvass of some of rap's most successful women on woman's place in the culture, where it stands, and where it's going.

A couple of years ago, we posted about how swept away we were by a Ben Kyle and Carrie Rodriguez duet of "Danny Boy" that was floating around YouTube. Since that time, Kyle and his Romantica bandmates have developed a close relationship with the Austin, Texas-based songwriter and fiddler Rodriguez, touring together and and taking turns collaborating on one another's songs. Tonight, fans will have a chance to catch a pared-down gig at the Dakota featuring Kyle and Rodriguez, and it's shaping up to be a memorable night.

The most metal of "Iron Man" covers starring a tesla coil

Sometimes the internet spits out some incredibly dumb things. And sometimes it retches on the floor some configuration of genius that makes you question how you spend your free time. Sometimes, pretty much always, those two things cross streams. This is one of those sometimes.

We Are the Willows tour diary, Vol. 2

It's hard to know what sort of person I need to be to survive socially when in a new place. Is it important to be super duper extroverted? Maybe...but sometimes I can appear to be a little nuttso buttso when I'm like that. But if I don't take initiative to talk to folks and make friends, I'm just going to sit around pretending to be interviewed by Al Roker.

Lady Gaga

Xcel Energy Center

Measure her in terms of her presence as a multi-platinum pop performer, and Lady Gaga is still in her infancy; it was only a short year and a half ago that she was performing at the Fine Line, a 700-capacity club. This time around she returned to play two consecutive sold-out shows at our state's largest arena, and it's no surprise that her schizophrenic, sprawling inaugural performance at the Xcel Center was a little hit-and-miss.

Fans in St. Paul were treated to a brand new song at Gaga's first of two back-to-back shows at the Xcel Energy Center. Midway through her performance, after fumbling around a bit on the keys, Gaga apologized, said she would probably get in trouble, and admitted that she wanted to play a song she had never performed before called "Living on the Radio."

Seether's John Humphrey talks about tonight's show at the Fair

Categories: Interview

Chances are if you've turned on 93X here in Minneapolis, you've been privy to hearing the meticulously angry sounds of Seether. Not to say there's anything wrong with a solid dose of sculpted alternative-metal. The band of over 10 years has soldiered on through the post-grunge age and managed to not only survive, but successfully dominate. When many of the era's predecessors somehow seem to burn out long before their third album, Seether brings to us a pleasant taste of familiarity when we turn the radio on and can almost savor the nostalgia from vocalist Shaun Morgan's rusty wind-pipes. We've been hearing his salty voice for just about seven albums now -- that's staying power.

Seether are now hitting the road with Shaun Morgan, who infamously had a tumultuous relationship with Amy Lee of Evanescence; it seems all the kinks have been worked out and we have our Seether back. With a new record coming out in January, they are very much alive in the rock community. We spoke with John Humphrey, the drummer for Seether, about their performance tonight at the Minnesota State Fair.
