Article: Communist Daughter frontman Johnny Solomon finds small-town sound
Communist Daughter is the rebirth of former Friends Like These frontman Johnny Solomon, who retreated to Prescott, Wisconsin to start his own restaurant and reclaim his sense of artistic purpose. Along the way, Solomon gathered up a new group of musicians to help him record his new songs, and the result is Communist Daughter's stellar debut Soundtrack to the End.
Moody and lo-fi, Soundtrack to the End showcases Solomon's innate talent for pop songwriting, pairing bright melodies with an undercurrent of distant, echoing despair. The album's first single, "Not the Kid," was an immediate hit with radio listeners, and skyrocketed to the #1 spot on the Current's Chart Show when it was released back in February.
More recently, Communist Daughter invited the MPLS.TV crew out to Prescott to film a video on the roof of Solomon's restaurant for our City of Music series. Watch that performance here:
Communist Daughter perform tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 3, at 7 p.m. in Loring Park. Free and all ages. Following their performance will be a screening of the film Raising Arizona and an afterparty at Nick and Eddie with electro-dance band Estate.
