Justin Bieber gets an ambient homage, 800% slower

​Someone named Nick Pittsinger AKA Shamantis (or not...we'll get to that) recently took his possibly ironic love of the J. BIEBZ and unwittingly injected it into the web's jugular about 18 hours ago as of this writing. By using an open-source program called PaulStretch ("...suitable only for extreme sound stretching of the audio - like 50X - and for applying special effects by 'spectral smoothing' the sounds. It can transform any sound/music to a texture"), Pittsinger made the Justin Bieber song "U Smile" 800% slower, creating a hypnotic and very likeable piece of ambience with a lamentable maelstrom of internet shittery in tow. But first! Some back story. Four days before posting the song, Shamantis tweeted:

Among several other Bieber shoutouts. Then, hours after posting the song, it made the front page of Reddit. From there it was a hop skip and a jump to Gawker, where little big stories go to graduate. And graduate it did...right into a brick wall that has Shamantis simultaneously effacing his creation ("I don't claim this to be any sort of MY OWN talent resonating. All I did was put the song through Paulstretch. Anyone can do that") and defending it from a spuriously titled and positioned group named the Photo Wave Orchestra, who apparently posted his Bieber tweak as their own composition. Judging from the many browser tabs in front of me, my money is on Mr. Pittsinger for the honesty award in today's internet three-ring circus. A week ago Shamantis tweeted:

Good things happenin'. I have a feeling my life is going to change forever in a few months. :)

He didn't have to wait months, and maybe now he wishes it just never had. Regardless, it's worth a listen, and an interesting dissection of digital audio science-type-stuff to hear the slowed version's sped-up version. But not the original, really (sorry J. BIEBZ!).
