Ben Weaver kicks off BLB residency tonight
His three-show residency at the Bryant-Lake Bowl will culminate with the release of his new album, Mirepoix and Smoke, on October 8.
Weaver explains the gist of the shows: "I will be performing songs from the new record each night and will also be joined by some of my food, writer, poet and musician heros and friends," he says.
Tonight's show will be hosted by Ellen Stanley (KFAI Women Folk), with special guests Mike Phillips (Green Ox Foods, formerly of the Craftsman) speaking about "charcuterie, butchery and meat processing, sustainability and regionally sourced food," and Andrew Kopplin (Kopplin's Coffee) discussing "terroir, single origin coffee, small batch roasting and why he doesn't want to own a coffee chain."
The residency continues next Thursday, September 30 with host Andy Sturdevant and readings by Jonathan Miles, Dobby Gibson, Juliet Patterson and Lightsey Darst, and will conclude on October 8 with a CD-release show featuring openers the Pines.
Here's a trailer for the residency, which is billed as "Tramping With the Pioneers":
