Hot Dish 1-Year Anniversary tomorrow night at Record Room

Long ago, when Blink182 and N*Sync topped the Billboard charts, there was an underground yet sophisticated house music culture centered around a night in the VIP Room called Beatopia. Every Friday night, beat lovers would pack themselves into the tiny, sweaty room and dance for hours on end to locals like Minneapolis Soul Music, E-Tones, Dirty Mackenzie, Alexander East and more.  DJ Nickles, a house DJ now known as J.Matthews, played up there and likely had no idea he'd end up running the most popular house night in town in that very spot ten years later.

Together with celebrated local house jock Nate Laurence, Matthews launched a Saturday night party called Hot Dish in the Record Room (formerly VIP) one year ago this weekend. To celebrate the milestone, the dudes are bringing out some of underground house's most buzzworthy: John Hawley and Lee Jarvis.

It's a show we'd highly recommend if you're interested in getting down without all the pretense. And who knows, maybe some of that spirit from days gone by will make an appearance.
