Prince (almost) joins Gayngs: The movie

When Gayngs took over the First Avenue Mainroom last May for their pair of decked-out "Last Prom on Earth" shows, even the Purple One himself headed to the club to check out the show in person. At the time, stories were mixed on why Prince stood in the wings with his guitar but never took the stage (some said he was waiting to be introduced, while others said he thought the band was handling it well enough on their own), but now there is hi-def video of that magical moment available for viewing.
About two-thirds of the way through, you can see Ryan Olson bound to the edge of the stage to shake Prince's hand and whisper in his ear. We called up Ryan to find out what he and Prince talked about that night.
"If I wasn't incredibly drunk, I wouldn't have gone up to him," Olson laughs. "I was just asking him if he wanted to play on the song, at one point he said he wanted to."
Olson isn't sure why Prince ultimately decided to stay backstage, though. "Believe it or not, that's the only time I've hung out with Prince," he jokes. "He doesn't seem to want to take my calls."
