Not what it looks like
Two of pop's most reviled (by critics) and popular (to people somewhere) ladies released some content this week. Kesha's "Sleazy" leaked today, while Katy Perry released a new video for her song "Firework."

So different in mien, so similar in milieu; so where in the 'twain?

Lazerbeak's 'Legend' gets the Hood Internet treatment

LAZERBEAK_ALBUM_ART.jpg
Few DJs understand what makes a fun mash more than Chicago's The Hood Internet, and few producers display as much thoughtful versatility as Minneapolis' own Lazerbeak. So a sonic experiment featuring these two is a welcome move as it was announced today that 'Beak's latest, Legend Recognize Legend, has gone Hood.

Cadence Hip Hop Series w/ P.O.S. & Big Zach of Kanser
October 28, 2010
Dowling Studio, Guthrie Theatre, Minneapolis

Thursday at the Guthrie things were busier than usual. "It's not too often that we've got a big play and a rap show," I overheard from near the box office, while Guthrie staff sold the last few tickets available for each to hoodie-wearing hip hop heads and suit-clad theatre aficionados alike. From the start it was clear that this wasn't an ordinary night.

In case you missed it in this week's print edition, we had a great interview conducted by P.O.S. and featuring the two artists behind Broken Crow, who currently have an installation at the XYandZ Gallery in South Minneapolis.

Their installation, WHEN TRU$T IS THE NEW MONEY, opened earlier this month and runs through November 13, with a closing party at the gallery tomorrow night featuring one of P.O.S.'s collaborators (and one of this year's Picked to Click winners) Marijuana Deathsquads.

happy-halloween-videos.jpg
Please be thinking "bacon" please be thinking "bacon"
The thing about rounding up scary music videos for Halloween is that so rarely are they actually scary; Michael Jackson as a zombie/werewolf/come hither teenager? Meh. Alice Cooper, GWAR, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Insane Clown Posse...NOT SCARY. Predictable and funny maybe, but goosefleshing? Disturbing? Meh.

Here are 14 videos that are legitimately scary, creepy, unsettling, violent, offensive, and not safe for most work places. Happy Halloween!

Taking into account his social and political activism, extensive musical catalog, and long and storied life, Willie Nelson - if you ask me, the folks at High Times, and gay cowboys in particular - has got to be one of the coolest dudes to walk the planet. And his stage show is truly an experience, with his band, featuring his sister on grand piano, somehow keeping up with his signature off-the-wall cadence.

If you didn't grab up a ticket for his rescheduled two-night stand at Mystic Lake Casino this Friday and Saturday night (postponed from last March, and now sold out), you should do one of three things:
