Gayngs' Austin City Limits set canceled after bus driver absconded with gear
We called up Ryan Olson to find out what happened.
"There's some serious legal shit going down," Olson said, indicating that he couldn't speak on record about the details of what happened but that he didn't believe the incident to be a mistake.
"We've been dealing with this since 4 this morning, we've got dudes flying to Nashville to get our equipment now... The band's instruments, amps, my laptop with all of our songs, it was all on that bus. That bus has been our home for the last two weeks."
Because the band's music relies on Olson's arrangements, they were unable to piece together a workable set of gear from other bands playing the festival. Gayngs begrudgingly canceled their performance at Austin City Limits early this morning, and are fanning out across the country to collect their gear and make their way home.
"This band has the most intense legacy," Olson says. "We've only played 10 shows. It's 10/10/10 today. There are 10 of us. What the hell is going on?"
"We were going to kill it today. We were going to destroy," he continues, sighing. "We will have the most triumphant return, I swear. It's an odd, poetically insane end to this journey."
UPDATE: We're working on getting the band's side of the story and will have additional reporting on this story soon; for the time being, CJ Curtsinger of CJ Star Buses has given his take in the comments below.
