L.A. songwriter Emily Lacy likes to take chances with her performances -- recently she's been setting up tents at museums and playing inside them, and this weekend she'll take it a step further by playing intimate shows in four- and five-minute bursts inside an igloo on the Walker Art Center's Open Field

Twin Cities expat Jessica Hopper, who now writes for the Chicago Reader down in the Windy City, caught up with Lacy to ask her about her igloo performances for this week's City Pages.

"I think it creates an opportunity to have a strange encounter with your audience, and I like that," Lacy said, reflecting on her upcoming shows. "It creates a space where you, as the performer, can feel the energy coming off the audience in a different way than in a collective setting."

EMILY LACY performs with Chris Kallmyer and poet Joshua Beckman from 1-4 p.m. on SATURDAY, JANUARY 22, and on SUNDAY, JANUARY 23, in an igloo outside the WALKER ART CENTER; 612.375.7600. Sign up to attend a performance inside the Walker on the day of the show.
