Large-scale hip-hop shows usually have one thing in common besides the beefed up security and hazy atmosphere: There's always a shit ton of people on stage who don't need to be. So imagine the backstage scene on Sunday night at the Wu-Tang show -- a group with 5,000 members to begin with -- and one that featured an intimidating number of local rap acts from all around the city.

It was kind of a zoo, but fun nonetheless, and we here at City Pages are fine with the fact that we added to the growing entourage because we got an impromptu interview with Inspectah Deck and had a great vantage point when the son of the late Old Dirty Bastard surprised the sold-out crowd with a performance of "Brooklyn Zoo" and "Shimmy Shimmy Ya." 

And we've got the video.

A local DJ and I were standing near the stage door next to a stocky kid wearing an ODB tribute shirt and sporting the "Baby I've Got Your Money" rapper's famously unruly hairstyle. My friend tapped the kid on the shoulder and plainly asked, "Hey, are you ODB's son?"

The kid smirked and made the universal sign for "Shhh!" as Method Man announced that we "weren't going to believe this, but ODB is physically in the building." Then, the spawn of Ol' Dirty tore to the edge of the stage to meet the sufficiently hyped-up crowd and this is what transpired:
