The Current's birthday bash set times
Here are the set times:
8:30 Trampled by Turtles
9:30 Roma di Luna
10:30 Jeremy Messersmith
11:30 Brother Ali
12:30 Free Energy
As a few folks have pointed out on Twitter, Brother Ali will be performing in the second-to-last spot despite being easily the largest act on the bill. The show looks like it will have quite a similar flow to last year's birthday party (read our recap here), which opened with the Twilight Hours and Lookbook, quieted down for a solo acoustic set by Mason Jennings, amped up for a powerful performance by P.O.S., and ended with a dance party to Solid Gold.
With a show spanning six hours (plus the hour and a half of milling-around time between when doors open at 7 p.m. and when music starts at 8:30), my guess is the Current didn't want the crowd to start thinning out before Brother Ali took the stage, so the "Hollywood headliner" slot makes sense. It'll put the pressure on Free Energy to create a fun dance vibe and keep the crowd on their feet up until the bitter end.
Mayor R.T. Rybak tweeted that he'll be in attendance at the show tonight. I wonder if he'll take the stage with St. Paul mayor Chris Coleman again this year to congratulate the Current on their continued success? And OMG, will Prince make another appearance in the shadows of the balcony??
