Poll: Would you pay $70 for Tiesto tickets?

Worth $70?
DJ Tiesto is coming to Roy Wilkins auditorium for Sound In Motion on April 1 for $60-70 a head, and no, that is not an April Fool's joke in advance. Lady Gaga tickets last year were over $100, as were tickets to see Elton John and the James Taylor/Carole King double bill. We'd hardly put Tiesto in such company.

Sound In Motion founder and longtime electronic music promoter Jack Trash disagrees and says Tiesto is a new kind of rockstar.

"This is not a DJ show, this is a rock concert. This is like Ultra Music Minneapolis or Electric Daisy Minneapolis," he said. "This will be the sickest visual sound and light presentation - it will outdo everything. It's a completely different world and a completely different experience. The only reason tickets are this price is because they have to be."

Trash said DJs like Tiesto will no longer play the smaller clubs because in larger cities they pull in 10,000 people easily.

"The one thing I can guarantee on this show, all money aside, is that it's going to be the most amazing thing I've been a part of," Trash said, "and I've been a part of a lot."

After everyone freaked out this month over the $50 ticket price for the Lauryn Hill show at First Avenue, we've got to ask: Is this something you'd pay for? Feedback. We want it. Go.

Update: Trash said tickets are $60 seated / $70 general admission (both in advance and at the door).

Tiesto is one of the most popular DJ's in the world. I think it's safe to say that you could make a hard argument that he is THE most popular DJ in the world. He easily plays for crowds of 30000+ on a regular basis all over the world. So, if he's going to come to play for a venue that only holds 2000, you'll have to pay more. I'm surprised he's coming here at all and not charging SIM the hundreds of thousands he would normally to play a 'private party'...because that's what Epic is compared to what he normally plays in Europe.

Notice I said Tiesto is one of the most popular Dj's in the world, NOT the best. Whether you like him or not is your opinion. Just remember that a ton of people would kill to see him live just once. $70 for those tickets is a good price. People are paying $1500 to see Swedish House Mafia play in Madison Square Garden and Tiesto has a much larger international fan base.

This music beats stuff like Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas anyday!! I would not pay that much through Ticketsinventory.com to get Tiesto! American music is filth, that stuff is overrated! Trance and techno are the future for music, for sure!

DJ Tiesto is a DJ of beautiful music, people are crazy for even THINKING that this is a joke!! People, Tiesto went mainstream because he is evolving, like any GOOD musician WOULD DO!!! He is WAY better than crap like the Black Eyed Peas ( what kind of name is that anyways....). Oh and if you did your research, 70 dollars is for general admission which is standing. . .!!!

Your poll says, "Would you pay $70 to see Tiesto at Epic?" The whole article goes into detail to say he's playing at Roy Wilkins and not Epic.....

Jack Trash and SIM has got it all wrong and I will NOT support his initiative to turn electronic dance music into something that it's not!

Electronic dance music is not a rock concert at all and cannot be marketed and implemented like one. What distinguishes the two is the atmosphere. The music is different and the dancing style and people are different. I live and breath techno/electronic. I always have.

The electronic dance scene in mpls has never really been about money...till now. I've been partyin' in the electronic dance scene foreverrrrr... tix in MPLS were usually $10-$30 and what aggravates me even more is that we actually used to have awesome djs--famous and nonfamous--come to mn like every coupla weeks. I saw everyone from markus schulz, armin, pvd, tiesto, deadmau5, darude, mark norman, andy moor, blank n jones, gabriel n dresden, marco v, and omg...so many more! I remember when i used to party so much that i cudn't even keep up with all the djs coming in.

Now, SIM just wants to bring in famous djs and charge an arm and leg for untraditional venues and less variety. It's so sad and frustrating for a clubhead like me. I've also been to LARGE ass shows in Chicago held at the Congress Theater and Aragon (and those weren't clubs), but they also didn't charge extra for the liberation to roam the venue--near or far from the DJ set-up.

Mpls has been hosting DJs big and small and we've been doing just fine keepin' this special dance scene in da clubs. If they sell out to capacity...awesome. If not, too bad. For people like me who's been literally emersed in the electronic dance scene, we don't mind a tight club.

But moving it to a venue such as the Roy Wilkins is about profits, not dancing or the music. I, therefore, will not support this SIM show.

hahaha.. anyone who wouldn't pay 70 for tiesto is a fool. either you need a real job cause mcdonalds isn't paying enough or your genre of music includes dmb n la toya jackson.for those that just love to b*tch and comment on articles of trash.. tiesto tix easily sell for 2-5x this anywhere else. ..jen i hope ur editor made u write this against ur will. makes mpls look ignorant n like the cities stuck in the darude/ fruity loops era

The vibe and energy is so worth it. I would not care if he played in a giant Jimmy's Johnny! I'll be there.

Tiesto is one of the biggest trance/electronic artists in the world. Go somewhere in Europe or Asia and ask about Tiesto. $70 is nothing for a ticket to a Tiesto show. Hardly company with Lady Gaga? Please. Tiesto is an international superstar and he deserves it.

Actually it was only $39 Euros in Ibiza at the biggest club in the world....

Remember when Tiesto performed at the Olympics.

The guy is on another level regardless of what he does or how much he makes you hate your life.

Please note that the $70 price is for a seat. At a dance music event. This is the biggest epic fail of an idea of all time.

ummm.... he's a DJ, not U2. AND he's playing Trance. $10 cover and drink specials should do it. Anything over that is a rip off.
