One-man-masked-band Hastings 3000 is in the midst of his first tour,
which will find him jetting out to the West Coast, Hawaii, and Japan.
Here's the fourth installment of his tour diary (first installment here, second here, third here). Check back over the next week for more updates from his tour.
Here is a clip of leaving Honolulu after almost four hours on the ground for undetermined reasons. The flight was scheduled for 8 hours, 23 minutes, but ended up being 12 hours and some change. Konichiwa Tokyo!
Alas Tokyo! After a 12 hour flight and losing 15 hours for international time change, I arrive on the land of the rising sun!
After a losing a total of 28 hours with time change, I needed a bit of a wash up. At the airport, I found a tiny room with a menu of options for personal service!
Customs went easy on me -- they saw me with my guitar strapped to my back and while making smiley strumming gestures asked if I play and waved me through, luckily! I've heard horror stories about meticulous body cavity searches coming into Narita airport. Whew!
This next clip is of the super express train that the Japanese have a full team of people clean after every stop. Complete with high tech rotating chairs for passenger viewing pleasure!
Here is a clip of the famous energy efficient bullet train known as "Shinkansen" in downtown Tokyo. It can go in upwards of 375 mph and is propelled by electro magnetic projection-and so is Hastings 3000! ;)
Tour manager Aaron Lewis telling where and what and how outside Tokyo station!
After being in Japan for nine hours, I was asked to do a TV show! It was for TV Tokyo Channel 12, which will air on March 12th, 2011 at 9:00pm. The crew was really cool, they bought me breakfast and lunch and then had me come back a few hours later for more shooting on the streets of Tokyo! Here is a clip of the crew and my hotel. What a crazy experience!
Here's my hotel room-It's so small that I can touch all four walls with my hands and feet at the same time!
After filming, Dave Gatchell of the Japanese band "1000's of Cats" (formerly of Selby Tigers) and I are making our way through Otsuka to play my first show in Japan at Orange Studio! Also on the bill is DeathaNova another one man monster!
Hers a shot of Dave Gatchell and me. He has been helping out a ton on this leg of the "A New Monster Tour" Tokyo!
Here some friends and I are walking into the Orange Studios venue for my first show in Japan! I'm stoked!
This is a clip of the beginning of Hastings 3000 show at Orange Studios, Saturday Feb. 5th, 2011 with DethaNova, and 1000's of Cats! The night was awesome! DeathaNova is a one man drumming monster with an emphasis on drum and bass style. 1000's of Cats is an awesome duo with Sonoko on vocals and she's a sweet guitar player, along with Dave Gatchell on ripping drums and vocals!
This is a clip of 1000's of Cats at Orange studios, Sat. Feb 5th 2011. Next up is Hastings 3000!
The after party at the restaurant "Sakurasuisan" with new friends!
Very funny "Kenji," who has lived in Minneapolis seven times back and forth from Japan!
Japanese billboards on the way back to the hotel. This picture is taken from the taxicab-there was a serious communication breakdown or should I say language barrier where two miles at 2:38am turned into 40 minutes of driving, turning around, u-turns, and time sensitive pressurized learning the Japanese language to communicate to the driver! He shut off his meter because he couldn't find the exact address and only charged for a fraction of the ride. He was super nice. What a sweet second day in Japan!
Here's a shot of some of the convenience store goodies-dried octopus tentacles, dried squid, dried Flounder skin, fish balls, smoked pickled brown chicken eggs, dried sea cucumber, and basically parts of every edible sea creature known to man packaged dried and ready to eat! Yummy ;)
