Rhymesayers mainstay Blueprint readies new full-length release
Fresh on the heals of the newest single from label stalwart Atmosphere comes another banger from fellow Rhymesayer Blueprint, "So Alive," from his upcoming Adventures in Counterculture (out April 5). The third single and teaser from the impending full length, "So Alive" shows Blueprint's versatility not only as an MC but as producer, further exposing his knack for delving into multiple genres as shown on the more uptempo club sound and production of the new track.
The remixes of the single also stretch Blueprint's musical identity and ability to fall into virtually any DJ format necessary, glitch-hop studs Innerpartysystem being my own personal fave of the bunch.
Blueprint - "So Alive" single with remixes by rhymesayers
One of the few non-Minnesotans in the label's stable, Ohio's Albert Shepard, or Blueprint as he's known to fans, first become a part of Rhymesayers family as a hype man in Atmosphere and later formed Soul Position with beatmaker RJD2, dropping their first full length, the essential 8 Million Stories, in 2003.
Along with the stream of new singles, Blueprint's "The Adventures of Blueprint" video series has shed light on the evolution of his process as well as given him space to voice his frustrations with the modern-day radio climate. With so many local ties and such a variety of music styles stockpiled in the beats of the new work, one wonders who'll be the first to the plate to step up to bless Twin Cities hip hop masses with Blueprint's freshest sounds? We're still waiting to find out.
In the meantime, Blueprint just set off this week on a massive three-month tour that will have him join up with Atmosphere in April -- but not before making a stop to headline a packed 7th St. Entry March 27 with Seatle's Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
