Bob Dylan in Beijing: Photos, videos, and set list
A first in his career and a first for China, Bob Dylan set off on a tour of Asia this week. Finally after the typical government crackdown that prevented him from playing there a year ago he finally got the go ahead starting with a gig in Taiwan last Sunday and the highly anticipated performance at the Worker's Gymnasium in the capital, Beijing on Wednesday.![]()
By all reports everything went off without a hitch and what some may have anticipated for the traditionally provocative songwriter who's set list had to be pre-approved by the government and therefore had to avoid any political "sensitivities" it seemed Dylan was just happy to do what he does best at this point in his career and that's to bring the music to the people.
Not surprisingly, Bob played things pretty close to the vest, not saying much more than introducing his band and playing the hits that eager Chinese and expat fans came to see and hear.
Dylan plays another concert tonight in China in Shanghai before he globetrots for gigs in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on April 10, back to Hong Kong on April 12 and Singapore on April 15, and then on to Australia and Europe through June.
