Wayne "The Train" Hancock to play Lee's Liquor Lounge tonight

Hank III has sung his praises, saying that he "has more Hank Sr. in him than either I or Hank Williams Jr," and describing him further as "the real deal." Tonight, you can judge this assessment for yourself by heading on down to Lee's Liquor Lounge to catch a performance by Wayne "The Train" Hancock.

Hancock, born in Dallas and now based out of Austin, Texas, has eight albums and a best-of under his belt following his 1995 debut Thunderstorms and Neon Signs, the title track from which was notably covered by Hank III, fan and kindred spirit.

I'd say Hank's description is just about spot-on - Hancock has the same pie-eyed yet clear-as-a-bell vocal delivery Hank Williams is known for, with a sound and style updated just enough to never come off as hokey or insincere. Here he is with Joe Buck, another Lee's regular.

Jennifer Markey and Bob Wayne & the Outlaw Carnies open, with doors at 8PM, $12 advance/$15 door.
