'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall': New Coldplay single or forgotten Dashboard Confessional B-side?

Coldplay announced today via their website that they will be streaming a new single on their website this Friday, called -- wait for it -- "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall." Naturally, this announcement has been met with more than a few stifled giggles across the blogosphere, mostly because the title sounds like it should have been a hidden track on a Dashboard Confessional album circa 2001.

To make sure we weren't imagining things, we dug up our ol' turn-of-the-century emo CDs to see how "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" might fit in. Turns out: pretty well. Remember the Dashboard song "The Sharp Hint of New Tears"?

Coldplay also posted the lyrics to their new track, which they plan to debut as the make their way around the summer festival circuit. We obviously haven't heard it yet, but we assume the melody is some kind of perfect marriage of Coldplay's "Yellow" and Dashboard's "Screaming Infidelities." Who knows. It might be really good, right? After all, he rhymes "knees" with "trapezes"!
