Adele will make up missed First Ave gig at the Xcel

Talk about an upgrade. After postponing two separate appearances at First Avenue's Mainroom last month due to a bout of laryngitis that has kept her off the road for weeks, Adele has announced a make-up date for the Twin Cities: But rather than returning to honor her gig in the 1,800-capacity Mainroom, she'll return to play the mammoth Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on August 24 with opener Wanda Jackson.

"As I'm sure most of you know I had to cancel over half of my U.S. tour a couple weeks back. It was a devastating decision to make," Adele said in a statement she posted to her website. "I got better before and I'm getting better this time, and I will do everything I can to make sure nothing like this happens again!"

Adele also says that she's been unable to talk or take singing lessons for the past few weeks, and has passed the time cooking and watching Beyonce's I Am Sasha Fierce tour DVD and episodes of 30 Rock. "I cant wait to be able to sing again," she says, "I'm bored stiff."

The new Twin Cities date will be co-presented by First Avenue, Sue McLean & Associates, and JAM Productions, and an exchange program will be set up for those still holding onto their tickets from the original First Avenue show. Xcel has set up an FAQ page about the exchange program.

Tickets for the Xcel show will run $29.50-$89 and go on sale Monday, July 11 at 10 a.m.

And our previous great viewing area at First Avenue is now the crappiest seats at Xcel.  They couldn't give those loyal enough to buy seats at the smaller venue Mainfloor!!     I expect to be getting my money back!!  I have already tried once from the ticket provider and they are not being very helpful.

An upgrade? More like a slap in the face for those with First Avenue tickets.

Too bad for the idiots who bought $300 tickets on craigslist. Talk about your all time backfires.

No qualms with her scheduling a show at Xcel Energy Center (she deserves to be playing the big rooms), but she should also keep her commitment to First Avenue.  It would show goodwill to the staff and the fans that had to (twice) deal with the fallout of her canceling a cool intimate club gig.  Come back to the Twin Cities Adele- but come back to First Avenue too.

If I ever catch laryngitis. I would like the kind of laryngitis that quadruples my ticket prices and makes the size of the venues I perform at 20 times bigger.
