It's a good day in music when Bob Mould is trending on Twitter, and the former Hüsker Dü frontman turned solo songwriter and memoirist did just that yesterday evening as he kicked off a series of Twin Cities events to celebrate the release of his new book, See a Little Light.

Mould's first stop yesterday afternoon was at the Current's UBS Forum in downtown St. Paul, where he played a handful of songs and chatted at length with Mary Lucia about the evolution of his musical career (his in-studio will be broadcast on the Current tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.). It's clear that Lucia and Mould have worked up a rapport over the years, and their conversation remained focused and thought-provoking as they wound through his history with Husker Du, leaving the band and retreating to a farm in Pine City, and then somewhat accidentally forming Sugar.

When Lucia asked if he would ever consider reforming Sugar for a reunion show, Mould seemed surprisingly open to the idea. "I'd never say never to that. That door closed gently," he said, laughing warmly. "It didn't slam shut."

They also talked quite a bit about Mould's first formative years in the Twin Cities, when he moved here at the age of 18 to attend Macalester, and he spoke fondly of meeting Grant Hart at Cheapo Records and the importance physical record stores have continued to play in his life.

"Does anybody in the audience remember record stores?" he joked. "There's nothing like being side by side in the bins with someone... That's how community is started, that's where bands get together, that's where we get our education as musicians."

Later in the evening, Mould read from his book at Magers & Quinn in Minneapolis, and today -- which is also the day that See a Little Light is officially released -- he will settle in to the Dakota for a night of storytelling and song.

For more on Bob Mould's new autobiography, we published a review of the book and interview with Mould in this week's print edition -- and you can read that online here.
