Justin Timberlake invests in MySpace

Cue the sound of 1,000 "He's bringing MySpace back" headlines being typed at once: Today Specific Media announced that it is buying MySpace -- the social network we all forgot to log into starting somewhere around the end of 2008 -- and will enlist the help of new stakeholder Justin Timberlake to revitalize the site.

"There's a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect," Timberlake "says" in a press release that was released today. "MySpace has the potential to be that place."

What's even more bizarre (because, really, this all seems pretty surreal) is that Timberlake played the role of Napster founder and one-time Facebook president Sean Parker in The Social Network just last year. Oh, the plot, it thickens... Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg's acquisition of Friendster should be announced any day now.

We tried to go to JT's MySpace page to see if he had posted any thoughts about this new development, but a pop-up ad for "pimping out your profile" with purple glowing swirly hearts crashed our browser before his page could load. Darn.
