Emily Lacy returns to the Walker for a 12-day residency, starting today

The last time we heard from Emily Lacy, the experimental and evocative L.A. singer-songwriter was preparing to brave a freezing January day in Minneapolis and attempt to perform outdoors in an igloo. Now, as we recover from one of the hottest stretches in recent memory, Lacy is returning to the Walker for a 12-day residency along with artist collective Machine Project, starting today.

This time around, Lacy will be spending each of her 12 days in a different area of the Walker Art Center, creating improvised music in response to the exhibits around her "with an ear towards wistful country songs and vocal electronica." Lacy's performances will start at 2 p.m. each day, and each performance will vary in length as well as location.

It's not the first time Lacy's collaborated with Machine Project; when we spoke with her back in January, she had already been working with them off and on for a few years. In addition to several other events at the Walker, including an opera performed specifically for dogs (aw), the Project will be presenting "Music for Parking Garages" today from 3-8 p.m. in the Walker's underground garage, which will feature a collab between L.A. musicians Casey Anderson and Chris Kallmyer and Twin Cities experimentalists Jonathan Zorn, Jon Davis, Adam Patterson, and members of Cantus.
