KRS-One is coming to Minneapolis on Tuesday, July 19 to headline First Avenue, and it's for a great cause: The Bronx-based influential rapper is joining a strong lineup of hip-hop artists like Detroit's Slum Village, Chicago's Da Black Pearll and the Twin Cities' own Toki Wright and Truthmaze to raise money for people affected by the North Minneapolis tornado this past spring.

Titled "Moja," a swahili term meaning "one," the benefit will specifically help to fund the grassroots organizations MinneapolisTornado.info and North Minneapolis Post Tornado Watch, which have helped to coordinate the flow of information and relief efforts on the ground level following the May 22 tornado that devastated several areas of North Minneapolis.

"Instead of giving up, we have decided to create our own path and try to generate revenue for our operations, while still reaching out to the major foundations and well wishers with the hope they can help us expand our operations since our workload has tripled," Moja's organizers wrote on the event's Facebook page. They are still looking for additional sponsors and donors to help with the event, which will be hosted by DJs Peter Parker and Xpect.

Moja is 18+ and tickets are $33.50 in advance and $40 at the door; check out First Ave's event page for more information on how to purchase tickets, which just went on sale today.
