There's a new Cuban band in town, and they've been making waves in south Minneapolis thanks to a weekly spot they're holding down at Nicollet's Driftwood Char Bar. To find out more about what Malamanya is all about, City Pages writer Danny Sigelman met up with singer Adriana Rimpel and bassist Tony Schreiner to find out how the multicultural group decided to tackle Cuban son music.

"Everything now is automatic and immediate," Schreiner told City Pages. What drew me to this music is how deep in its roots it is. I think there's a return to the old world that people are getting into."

And catch Malamanya live as they wrap up their Tuesday night residency at the Driftwood this month on August 16, 23, and 30.
