Pawlenty books Playboy-endorsed folk-rockers, Auto-Tuned Christians for Ames Straw Poll

SONICFLOOd: Probably not Pawlenty's first choice for Ames.
Tim Pawlenty has booked two musical acts for the Republican Straw Poll in Ames next weekend: The Nadas and SONICFLOOd.

As you might guess, his choices aren't exactly about the music. Otherwise he'd have probably booked Lady Gaga and Bruce Springsteen.

The Nadas are a folk rock group from Des Moines once feted by Playboy as "The Best College Band You've Never Heard of." SONICFLOOd is a Christian band playing salvation songs. They're fronted by Rick Heil, a right-winger whose "mama grizzlie" wife is considering a Tea Party run for the United States Senate in Tennessee.

We've got a hunch he's voting for Bachmann.

Heil is an interesting character on Twitter. He uses it to "follow Christ and let Him tweet to your heart." At the same time, he uses it to tweet when he's lost his appetite at pizza places ("some fat dudes pants aren't covering his crack on purpose! Really?") or thinks someone's tattoos are whack ("If you're going to get a big giant tattoo across your chest you better make sure you have the saying correct.. 'a diamond through the rough").

Heil has also used his twitter to comment on Auto-Tuning with some not-so-Christian thoughts: "Don't admit to Auto-Tune use or editing of drums unless asked directly. Then admit to half as much as u really did."

Check out SONICFLOOd and the Nadas below and let us know what you think. Are his musicians better than Bachmann's?

Here's a Nadas song seemingly written for Pawlenty:

Here's SONICFLOOD's "I Want to Know You." It's about God.
