Wayne Newton coming to town to host Vega's 'Rock the Boat' cruise on the Mississippi

Vega Productions just took things to whole other level. While their upcoming Rock the Boat cruise of the Mississippi River already sounded pretty wicked -- they're planning to hitch two riverboats together to accommodate two stages of music by Mark Mallman, the Goondas, White Light Riot, and the 4onthefloor -- they just announced today that the master of ceremonies for the evening will be none other than Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton.

To ensure that this is not some sort of elaborate hoax to spike ticket sales, proceeds from which will benefit music and arts programs at St. Paul Public Schools, we shot an email to Vega executive director Mark Gehring asking if he was pulling our leg.

Damn. Well played, Vega. Well played.

Rock the Boat takes place next Friday, August 19, on the Betsey and Anson Northrop Padelford Riverboats, which leaves Harriet Island at 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the gate, and are available at the Electric Fetus or online at Vega's site.
