With only a couple of weeks left until the release of their reunion record,
Mockingbird Time, the Jayhawks are flying into overdrive with a series of promotional shows, downloads, and appearances, including a recent stop at Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion last weekend at the Minnesota State Fair. In an attempt to keep up with the band as they celebrate the new CD, here's a roundup of recent 'Hawks events and freebies.
First, the Fair: As part of a two-hour taping at the Grandstand on Friday night (which aired on Saturday), the Jayhawks sat in with Garrison Keillor to perform several songs off the new record and a couple of older hits. Avid City Pages photographer Steve Cohen was at the Fair on Friday night to capture the moment, and you can see more of his photos and listen to the whole A Prairie Home Companion show at the links below.
In addition to their APC performance, the Jayhawks will be playing a full set at the Fitzgerald next Tuesday night, September 13 for another public radio station. The Current will be hosting the invite-only performance with emcee Mary Lucia, and it will also be videostreamed live online.
More info and a ticket giveaway are over on the Current's site.
For those willing to take a small road trip, the band will also be in St. Cloud at the Paramount Theater next Thursday and Friday, and in Mankato at the Riverfront Park on Saturday night, September 17.
After their Minnesota shows, the band is hitting the road for an extensive tour that will take them around the U.S. this fall and abroad to Europe in the late winter and spring of 2012. They will also appear on Late Night With David Letterman on September 23.
