Dance nights are big on Thanksgiving Eve. Everyone has the next day off, and there's probably more than a few people who anticipate a massive caloric freefall and want to get their bodies moving before the tryptophan coma. This year, there's a fantastic option for us all: One of the city's finest disc jockeys -- both in clubs and on the radiowaves -- is teaming up with this here paper for a big dance-a-thon. Jake Rudh and City Pages, along with The Current, are proud to announce 'Seconds' at the Varsity.

We touched base with Jake late last week about what makes him excited for the event. It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so mark your calendars...

What are you most excited about when it comes to 'Seconds'?

The night before Thanksgiving is the second biggest night to "hit the town" after New Years Eve, so I'll be happy to help hundreds of folks prep for their next day feast. But I'm most excited about debuting Transmission at the Varsity Theater. We had two successful runs in the First Avenue main room this year, but this will be a first for Transmission. The Varsity also has a massive video screen so folks can dance under those new wave and early MTV vids they enjoy. Loads of new "indie" artist videos have been added to the collection as well. The Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, and Phoenix vids fit in flawlessly with the New Order, Smiths, and Bowie.

What's one of your favorite things about Thanksgiving?

Like many, we have a tradition of watching "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" each year, so it's not so much what I'll be eating, but what I'll be viewing. Vince Guaraldi's soundtracks during the holidays just make it that much more special.

How's your gig at the Current going?

It's a complete honor to be part of The Current family. The thrill I feel each Thursday night sitting in the studio when the Transmission theme song begins to play and the mic goes live can't really be compared to anything else I've felt before really. It's a serious rush each week. To have so many folks interacting on Facebook & Twitter during the program just sweetens the deal. That's a long-winded answer for I love it!

What's been your favorite moment so far?

My favorite moment so far has to be when Andy McCluskey & Paul Humphreys of OMD and Chris Frantz of the Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club plugged the show. The spots haven't been edited, polished or aired yet, but hopefully it's the first of many to come. Being able to meet and interview the musicians I play on the show and have listened to for what seems like a lifetime is a bit surreal.

Jake Rudh's show on the Current airs at 10 p.m. Thursdays.
