Doomtree dominating the social media airwaves today as they release No Kings

If you've logged on to Twitter or Facebook today, chances are you've seen a post (or 10, or 20, or 50) about the release of Doomtree's second full-length, full-crew album, No Kings. In true swarm fashion, the group is inundating social media with promotion of the record this morning before taking it to the streets for a series of release-day appearances throughout the Twin Cities.

All the hubbub is for good reason, too; No Kings is a blistering and impressively singular effort that conveys the power harnessed by Doomtree when they join foces as a collective. Unlike their previous full-length effort, Doomtree, which played like more of a mixtape that showcased each member's individual strengths, No Kings plays up the collaborative nature of the group and takes advantage of the shared skills they uncovered while touring heavily as a group last year and participating in all-hands-on-deck projects like the Gayngs Affiliyated remix record.

We'll have more on No Kings, what's new with the crew, and their thoughts on the upcoming Blowout Week at First Avenue in an upcoming issue of City Pages. But for now, here's a quick guide to jumping aboard the No Kings train today.

At 1 p.m. today, Doomtree is coordinating an iTunes "flash mob" to help drive up their positioning on the iTunes charts; they are requesting that fans looking to purchase No Kings digitally coordinate with that time, a pretty clever way to manipulate the charts.

At 3 p.m. today the crew will surface somewhere on Grand Avenue in St. Paul for a meet and greet with fans (they will announce the specific location shortly beforehand on their tour van's Twitter account), followed by another hang session at Muddy Waters in Uptown at 4 p.m. and their official meet and greet at the Electric Fetus at 7 p.m.

For now, there are a few ways to catch up with the group electronically. They were on the Current's Local Show this past weekend for an interview with Dave Campbell and a performance, and you can stream that show here:

And they also dropped the first video off No Kings yesterday, featuring one of the album's best tracks, "Boltcutter."
