Well, it's certainly no
Paul McCartney.
Target Field announced this morning that their first ever public concert in the new stadium will feature country artists Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw on July 8, 2012, news that's being met with a resounding, harmonious grump-fest from Twin Cities music fans.
It's not the first time the stadium has confounded area music heads (may we remind you of the
Top 40-Heavy Twins Music Programming Scandal of 2011), but the choice of Chesney and McGraw certainly makes sense from a ticket sales standpoint. Regardless of what you think of the pop country performers, however, the announcement was accompanied by one very enticing tidbit from Twins President Dave St. Peter: "We expect this will be the first of many concerts at Target Field, which we have long believed can become the best outdoor music venue in the region," he says.
Another silver lining? Rumblings about today's reveal spawned one of the best local-oriented Twitter hashtags of late, #TargetFieldConcerts, which had fans mashing together baseball terminology, Twins players, and bands with pretty hilarious results. Here are a few of our favorites:
