Caitlin Robertson releasing debut LP tonight at Amsterdam Bar and Hall

Caitlin Robertson has a voice that sounds like a Minnesota landscape--all soft, rolling, and peaceful, like a dusky late summer evening. That's a lot like what her debut album, Coyote Blues, sounds like, mixed with a little of the prairie folk tendencies that comes with Robertson's eclectic background.

It's been a trying few years for the old theater space on Nicollet Ave. and 14th St., which wrapped up its run as the Music Box Theater and converted back to its original name, the Loring Theater, under new management last year.

But as with the space's previous management, the new team, The Directors LLP, couldn't manage to turn a profit at the challenging location and will end their lease of the space on December 31.

Notable 2011 deaths in country music

It's an annual tradition to look back at year's end to those who've passed on in the previous twelve months. Whether it's just filler for the year's final broadcast of Entertainment Tonight, or Americans really do feel a need to reflect with sadness on the deaths of celebrities, I do not know. What I do know is that many fans of country music bemoan its transition away from the traditional, and so it is tangibly bittersweet to remember the elder fathers and mothers of the genre who have now passed, and whose voices will only carry on these American musical traditions into the future courtesy of their legendary recordings.

Not only can local pro hoops fans finally rejoice that the lengthy NBA strike has at long last been settled, and the restocked and recharged (but still substandard, apparently) Minnesota Timberwolves can decisively take to the court again. But they can also take some pride in knowing that local legends the Original 7ven (aka The Time) have partnered with Fox Sports Net to help kickoff the festive start to the basketball season.

The venerable Minneapolis group's energetic new tune "#Trendin" will accompany hoop highlights and game recaps featured on the station throughout the season, lending some decidedly Twin Cities funk flavor to clips of Kevin Love's rim rattling dunks and Ricky Rubio's stylish no-look passes.
