The Twin Cities jazz scene is grieving today upon learning the news that Christine Rosholt, an omnipresent and longtime local singer, has passed away suddenly. She was just a week shy of her 47th birthday, which she would have celebrated on January 3.

At this time there has been no explanation given for her death. Christine's sister, Elizabeth Rosholt Winden, confirmed the news last night on Facebook, writing "My sister passed away this morning. We are planning a memorial in the next few weeks... Christine will be deeply missed by so many -- we loved her very much."

Already, Rosholt's Facebook page has been flooded with memories from her friends and fans, including Lowell Picket, founder of the Dakota Jazz Club, who writes, "Christine was a bright light whose charm and smile were grace notes for everyone who encountered her. I am so sorry. So sad."

Just this past Tuesday, Rosholt had sent out a routine press release announcing shows she had booked through February 2012, including gigs at Amsterdam Bar and Hall, the Wabasha Street Caves, O'Gara's, and venues in Duluth, Fargo, and Alexandria. She celebrated the release of her latest album, Pazz, on December 1 at the Dakota. For more on her life, Jazz Police has posted an in-depth biography.
