Today marks the 31st anniversary of the day the music world was devastated by the loss of John Lennon, and its a moment in history that has been honored very powerfully here in the Twin Cities thanks to Curtiss A's annual Lennon tribute night at First Avenue. In recent years, the Minnesota Beatle Project has also timed its release to coincide with the anniversary of Lennon's death, and today the Current is paying its own tribute to Lennon by broadcasting an interview with Yoko Ono about his artwork and legacy.

The interview was conducted early yesterday morning by program director Jim McGuinn, who opened the conversation by talking about a traveling exhibit of Lennon's artwork that will be at the Edina Galleria this weekend. They also touch on her thoughts about the tribute that will take place tonight in Minneapolis, her thoughts on contemporary music, her feelings about the earthquakes that have devastated Japan, and how her life has been impacted by Lennon's passing.

Listen here:

Curtiss A's annual John Lennon tribute and the Minnesota Beatle Project, Vol. 3 release party takes place tonight, Thursday, December 8, at First Avenue. Curtiss A and friends will open the show at 7, the MBP will invite bands to perform covers at 8, and Curtiss A will return to take us all home. 18+. $15. 6 p.m.
