McNally Smith has an eclectic show planned for this Saturday, which could surely cure the winter blahs. The Deepwinter Bonfire will include performances by Coloring Time, which is a huge improvisational collective with an impressive laundry list of local musicians.

Expect to see and hear Peter Wolf Crier's Peter Pisano, Chastity Brown, Kristoff Krane, Adam Svec, Crescent Moon's Alexei Casselle, Joe Horton, No Bird Sing, Casey O'Brien, Aby Wolf, John Keston, Michelle Kinney and Melissa Mathews of Mississippi Peace, The Pines' Mike Rossetto, Christopher Thomson, as well as other special guests. But that's not all!

Also, expect to bounce to the Galactic Soul Arkestra (featuring Toki Wright, Mayda, Mally, Luis Ortega and others), and Improvestra, a new McNally Smith-based 25-piece hybrid chamber orchestra. The diverse, innovative local lineup will also be augmented by performances by video artist Oliver Grudem, dancers from St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, and the Twin Cities B-Boy Dance Collective.

The celebratory affair will take place Saturday in the History Theatre at the McNally Smith College Of Music in downtown St. Paul, and runs from 5:30 p.m. until 11 that evening. The all-ages event is free for all students (with a valid student ID), and only $5 for the general public.

With the distinct, divergent set of performers and events on display, there's bound to be something to suit everyone's tastes, and it gives Twin Cities music fans a chance to extol the boundless talents of our area performers, whether they are veterans of the scene or just starting out. It all adds up to what should be a truly enjoyable day filled with unique, inventive performances which should easily heat things up for everyone in the dead of winter.
