Trampled by Turtles, Polica on free Record Store Day LP

In recent years, it has become increasingly obvious that Minnesotans love Record Store Day. The turnout to local independent record shops has been massive throughout the state, especially in the Twin Cites, where music fans line up early for the chance to score some of the exclusive albums made available that day. And the stores themselves have certainly capitalized on and enhanced the experience, providing free live music, food, and deep discounts to their customers.

Record Store Day falls on April 21 this year, and this time there will be an added vinyl incentive for Minnesota music fans, as Noiseland Industries, a locally-based vinyl record pressing and CD manufacturing company, is offering a free LP comprised of local musicians.

American Buffalo features music by Trampled By Turtles, Poliça, The 4onthefloor, and Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps, to name just a few, and will be available for free at all three Electric Fetus locations to those who make qualifying purchases on Record Store Day.

Andrew Volna of Noiseland explains the project this way, "All of the artists on this record are Noiseland clients. They contributed the songs to the project in the same spirit in which we are giving it away on Record Store Day. We want to draw attention to vinyl and our clients' great music." And while the songs themselves aren't exclusive to this release, having all of these stellar musicians on one LP certainly is a rarity.

Vinyl sales have been the only part of the music industry to see a consistent increase in sales over the last few years, and the tactile appeal and warm, rich sound of vinyl has certainly tapped into a subset of music fans who clearly aren't satisfied with the MP3 age. And this upswing in vinyl within the music community has only helped Noiseland's business, a fact which Volna readily acknowledges, "Vinyl records remind people that music is art. Our clients and their customers / fans find something really appealing about this format. We are in the business of supplying independent musicians and labels whatever they need to function in the marketplace. Fortunately more and more of them want vinyl. So it's a lovely convergence of aesthetics and business, I guess."

For those local music fans who know just how many excellent, exclusive releases are available on Record Store Day at the many fine independent music shops in the area, you can now add another stellar LP to that list thanks to the good folks at Noiseland Industries. Better line up early come April 21st, and somebody remember to bring the donuts.
