As we have the tendency to do every third Tuesday, Gimme Noise once again compiles eight standout tracks from Minnesota artists for you to kick back and vibe out with. Download them all and listen to them on repeat from now until next month!
The third single from his upcoming studio album Millennial, "The Lights, The Life" plays as a cautionary tale about investing too much in fame and its dark sides. Mike Dreams' positivity shines through the crisp and catchy beat, produced by Jimmy Easy, as he attempts to keep his focus as his own star rises.
The Usual SupectS, aka TUSS Music, has an abundance of talent in its four members, and as MCs Greg Grease and IBE have done to great success before, Akrite is now readying his own batch of solo material with his upcoming release "Lack Toast No Tolerance". Between TUSS, putting in work as I Self Devine's backing rapper
and rocking with Mundo Libre
, the hard-working artist is preparing to enter the limelight with his new project.
The five members (MCs Bona Phide, EMS, Idara & Shorty, and DJ Greenery) that make up group Slow Spokes bring a lot to the table musically, pulling from electro, dance, pop, rock, and roots influences, but their shared connection to BMX culture gives them both their name and a unique edge. Their self-titled debut is available for free and is perfect for fans of biking, old-school video games, and bouncy and eclectic hip-hop.
When Trama supposedly retired back in 2010, something told me we hadn't truly heard the last of him. Indeed, just this month, a brand new mixtape TRAMDILLA, featuring Trama over all J Dilla tracks, dropped on Soundcloud (humbly called the "best mixtape ever" by the man himself), along with a video for "One Day At A Time"
. Who knows how much we'll hear from Trama after this, but I for one am glad to know that he couldn't stay away from the mic.
With his recent big co-sign from Brother Ali and Plain Ole Bill
, Tomorrow Genius is a fast-rising local name that already
has a lot under his belt, despite being only 16. He is working towards a mixtape to come out in the next few months. His latest "Relationship Robbery" finds the young rapper reliving a failed relationship over Kid Cudi's "The End".
The first solo project from Escape Artists member 3flection, entitled "The Best Intentions EP", features personal reflections on his grind as a student, his thoughts on atheism, and troubles with women. The whole project is anchored by 3flection's smooth but resonant vocals, and guest appearances from O-Lay, Wize Guyz and Courtney Paulson add to the mix to create a solid EP.
As half of Guardians of Balance with St. Paul Slim, Mastermind has been in the game for some time. Just recently he dropped two sets of material he's been sitting on, under the guise of Denmark Vesey. The track "Redlight" features KWood on the hook and was produced by Slim, and is just one example of an array of styles displayed through the two parts of the "Watch Me Fly" leaks.
DJ Holiday brings us Taylor J's follow-up to the "Takeover" mixtape, and the buzz has been high, with looks from The Source
and Rap Radar
. Taylor J makes good on the attention he's getting by spitting energetic and tight lines over a good array of original and industry beats. A good cross-section of street raps, club raps, and introspective closers showcase Taylor J as a strong voice to keep an ear out for.
