Was Fiona Apple's "Every Single Night" worth a seven-year wait?

Fiona Apple back in Minneapolis in July on U.S. tour

Seven years is a long time between albums, and Fiona Apple tested our patience.

We'll wait a little longer while you read the title of her fourth album. The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do is due out June 19, and now we know a bit more of what it's going to be like as "Every Single Night" has emerged on Apple's Soundcloud page.

Not that any of the fans planning to attend her Minneapolis date in July at the Orpheum needed any more urging, but is this the type of material that can snap the general consciousness back to her agenda?

Arguably, yes. The "butterflies in my brain" are her own, and it's impressive how many Cat Powers, Joanna Newsoms, St. Vincents, and others with vastly fewer gifts have entered in the wake of long Apple absence since 2005's Extraordinary Machine. With the perfect toyish piano in the background, she sings, "I just want to feel everything," and it's impressive how "Every Single Night" quickly gives the listener the ability to feel umpteen aspects of this invigorated artist.

Fiona Apple. July 16 at Orpheum Theatre. Tickets cost $44-$74.

Actually, Cat Power (whose music does not resemble Fiona's) appeared in the musical scene before Fiona Apple did.  I agree Fiona is more talented than basically anyone out there, but we shouldn't loop everybody together in the same category.  Plus the seven-year wait won't be worth it or not worth it until we hear the album.  The songs is cool though.

I'm sure enough time is the preview for a good album.

It's good, but she sounds a bit like that Florence person at times, which is disturbing
