Is/Is light "Fire" from debut III, out in April
Minneapolis rock trio Is/Is has created a stunning new music video to accompany the release of their full-length album, III.
"Fire" is a molten, sludgy track cooled slightly by guitarist Sarah Rose's precision lead vocals, and fits within the framework of a spellbinding album. Spell is the key word here, because this purposely jagged video directed by City Pages' own Emily Utne (and edited by the band) might have you convinced that you're witnessing witchcraft unfold onscreen. "I'm in fact not a witch," Rose asserts. "I was trying to elaborate on that but it just makes me sound like a witch. I think 'witchgaze' suits us."
Any Carleton College alums will likely recognize the outdoor scenes as the fields wrapped around the outskirts of Northfield, our neighbors to the south.
Is/Is plays an album release show with Acid Baby Jesus, Zoo Animal, Heavy Deeds, and Fire in the Northern Firs on Friday, April 13 at Turf Club. 21+, $6; click here.
