River's Edge Music Festival 2012 at Harriet Island lineup

Yet another festival lineup came hurling toward the concert-going set late last night and it's a good one. This year's Lollapalooza performers include a bevy of top-tier Billboard-charting acts -- starting with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Black Keys -- and good chunk of amazing mid-level talent and up-and comers.

Also among our favorites set to rattle Chicago's Grant Park throughout the first weekend in August: Jack White, The Shins, Black Sabbath (?!), Florence + The Machine, M83, Santigold, The Weeknd, Justice, and -- would you look at that! -- Doomtree and Polica, two of Minneapolis' most praised local acts. Let's also not forget Trampled By Turtles, who hail from Duluth.

It's going to be a good summer.

The full Lollapalooza 2012 lineup is below, and you can check the Lolla web site on how to purchase tickets (the early-bird passes are already sold out).

Hating on hipster-ism as a crutch for people who can't (or choose not to) relate to anything that is new:   Just because I (or you) am not going to listen to a band every day for the rest of my life and make them part of my(or your)  permanent identity, doesn't mean I (or you) can't listen to and enjoy that band today, this month, or this year.  Some music comes and goes, like acquaintances, and some stays with you forever, like a best friend.  All can be enjoyed.   Haters: Are you exhausted? Try to take a day and define yourself by what you love, not what you hate. Is life more fun this way?

Between getting to Chicago, buying the tickets, finding lodging, and figuring out just how the hell I'm gonna even see the 5 bands I just dropped $500 to see, I think a simple visit to Somerset is in the July forecast.

I miss the days when Lollapalooza wasn't about who's hot in music right now because that is how this list of bands looks like to me. I can count on one hand just the few rare bands that I would go see at this year's Lollapalooza. Everyone else is just hipster music.

I mean for real, why would a festival try to have bands that are popular and people like at the moment?? Sooooo weird. Damn those pesky hipsters!
