Our neighbors in Wisconsin are in the midst of a potential political upheaval, and several well-known musicians are stepping in to rally support for the recall of Gov. Scott Walker -- including Brother Ali.

Along with the politically outspoken Minneapolis rapper, the Get Out the Vote Rally has the support of guitarist Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, the Nightwatchman), rock singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, Rise Against's Tim McIlrath, punk legend Mike McColgan (Street Dogs, Dropkick Murphys), and the Solidarity Singers' Sean Michael Dargan.

Given Ali's recent thought-provoking discussions of race relations and the foreclosure crisis in this country, it's no shock that the rights of workers being stripped is an issue that he's passionate enough about to get involved.

The event will be held on Friday between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the Madison Labor Temple in Madison, Wisconsin. Each of the six artists is expected to hit the stage as part of this free event.

In short, the embattled Walker has faced criticism since signing a bill in 2011 eliminating collective bargaining rights for most employees of the state. Enormous proteests have followed ever since, and opposition has bolstered the resolve of Democratic challenger, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, for a recall election on Tuesday, June 5.

Gov. Walker has been outspoken in his doubt that the protesters will actually show up to cast ballots on Tuesday, but Ali and the rest of the participants in Friday's rally are working to bring a load of exposure to the issue.

This rally comes a day after host of this past weekend's Soundset host, who releases his latest album on August 21, performs an intimate gig at the 7th Street Entry with his band Blank Tape Beloved. The show sold out in less than 24 hours.
