Brother Ali, who has long been a vocal supporter of the area's Occupy Homes movement, was arrested Thursday evening at a rally in Minneapolis. The outspoken Rhymesayers rapper -- who recently unveiled the first song from Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, due in August -- was reportedly one of 13 people arrested outside the Cruz family's home in south Minneapolis. The home has been a hotbed of protest in recent weeks, and our sister blog Blotter has more here, here, here, here, and here.

"This is something that's happening across the boards in all communities," Ali told Gimme Noise back in April. "This is their chance to take the lead and say 'We're going to figure out a way to solve this problem.' Outline it and commit to new approaches for the banks to work with homeowners."

According to the arrest report, Ali Douglas Newman (his full name) was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and later posted bail. He is due in court on July 5.
