Brother Ali is saying that Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color might be his best work to date, and on the strength of first single "Stop the Press," this isn't a far-fetched statement.

Recently, Ali unfolded one of the most traumatic and emotional periods of his life -- losing his father and dear friend Eyedea in just the span of a couple of days -- and now these memories form part of this highly autobiographical piece. The album in full comes out on August 21 via Rhymesayers, and features majestic production by Jake One.
Just a couple days ago, Ali had this to say about the album:
Just finalized the sequence for me and Jake One's new album Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color". Best work I've ever done? Might be. Finishing an album feels like raising a child and letting them out into the world. You do your best to fortify it with all of the love and passion and thought you can, and then you have to trust that you did what you your best and let it be what it is. Feeling really strong. Can't wait for you to hear this."

Rappers often tell tall tales, and embellish the truth for the benefit of their art. And there's nothing wrong with that. But here is a song that has real casualties, the interruptions of daily life, and the power of Ali's voice gets it across with a narrative arc.
