Wilco's Jeff Tweedy will NOT perform at Kill Kancer benefit at Cedar

The excellent lineup for this Sunday's Kill Kancer benefit show includes local luminaries -- young and old -- but the all-star band Golden Smog will not feature an appearance by sometime collaborator Jeff Tweedy.

Over the years, the group has incorporated members of the Replacements, Big Star, the Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, the Honeydogs, Run Westy Run and others, so it's no surprise that any live showing by the band can bring a wealth of rumors of what configuration will actually hit the stage. On this go-around, any talk about Wilco playing two gigs in Minnesota this year and neither of them being in the Twin Cities is still accurate. From the Cedar:
There have been reports circulating online about Jeff Tweedy appearing at the Kill Cancer benefit this Sunday, 6/17. We have learned that Mr. Tweedy is unable to attend the concert. Please update any online listing of this concert to reflect that.
The event's alternate spelling is a nod to former Soul Asylum bassist Karl Mueller, who died in 2005 following a bout with throat cancer. Proceeds from this show will go to a fund that has since been set up at the Minnesota Medical Foundation in his name.

The people who actually will be onstage, however, include the Magnolias, Chan Poling of the Suburbs sitting in with Golden Smog, Howler's Jordan Gatesmith (Mueller's old neighbor, actually), and Curtiss A's Dark Click. Plus, the Facebook invite mentions "Dave and Danny," and surely there are some local musicians we're familiar with who have those first names.

Update: Cedar confirms that Pirner and Murphy are indeed the last names of those fellas.

Kill Kancer. All ages, $15, 7 p.m., Cedar Cultural Center. Click here.

It'll be better this way. Tweedy wasn't part of Golden Smog when they started, and he has the whole rest of the world on his plate.  I, for one, am sort of relieved he won't be part of the lineup.  Keeping it real and local at The Cedar.
