The Current Effect, in progress

It's finally happening. Three years ago, Mumford and Sons released their debut album Sigh No More, and hoedown enthusiasts (and Current listeners) everywhere went crazy for the dynamic, mostly acoustic quartet. Now, at long last, the London-based folk rockers are ready to release their highly anticipated second album, titled Babel.

According to the band, Babel was written mostly on the road and during sound checks in the midst of their extensive touring. It will be released through Glassnote Records on September 25, and will hopefully include as many earnest big moments and vocal harmonies as Sigh No More. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, bassist Ted Dwane noted that the formula didn't change much:

"The ingredients are very much the same: the four core instruments and a lack of a drummer, which can give it that strange, simple, unique sort of sound. I don't think we were looking to be too crazy and experimental."

In other words, Babel is going to sound a lot like twelve tracks of heart-swelling crescendos and heart-throbbing verses from that dashing frontman, Marcus Mumford.

Dates for the band's North American tour are listed below, but Minnesotans might have to wait a little while for Mumfy to appear in our neck of the woods. It seems like not only is Minneapolis being overlooked on the 15-date run, but most of the East Coast.

Take a listen to "Ghosts That We Knew," a new track off the upcoming album:

Babel track listing:
"Babel"
"Whispers in the Dark"
"I Will Wait"
"Holland Road"
"Ghosts That We Knew"
"Lover of the Light
"Lovers' Eyes"

"Broken Crown"
"Below My Feet"
"Not With Haste"
