Big Cats! For My Mother record release show is tonight at the Cedar
Tonight at the Cedar Cultural Center, Big Cats! (aka Spencer Wirth-Davis) is having a record release party for his highly inventive, and deeply personal, new album, For My Mother. There's a great feature on Wirth-Davis in this week's City Pages, documenting the desperate struggle and ultimate success that Spencer encountered while putting this record together, and tonight's show promises a full rendering of the entire new album with a sprawling 15-piece band that will help bring this heartrending music to life. It should not be missed.
To get more of a sense on the overall sound and structure of the instrumental album, give a look and a listen to this recent Current in-studio performance by Big Cats!, where Wirth-Davis is joined by a tight 11-piece crew who help him craft the intoxicating sounds of "Six."
Tickets for tonight's Big Cats! record release show, which also features opening sets from The Chalice and K. Raydio, can be purchased here, with a percentage of proceeds from all ticket sales going directly to the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance in honor of Spencer's mother, Christi Wirth-Davis, who died from ovarian cancer two years ago. In addition, 75% of the proceeds from the sales of For My Mother will go to the charity as well.
So head out and hear some wonderful music created by some truly talented musicians tonight at the Cedar, while also showing your support to a truly benevolent cause.
Doors to the Cedar open tonight at 7 p.m., with music starting at 7:30.
