Halloween costume ideas, 2012: Music icons
At this point, Halloween is pretty much upon us. If you haven't picked out a costume for all those parties and concerts this weekend, then it just so happens you're in luck. Instead of rocking the tired Jimi Hendrix look or that blase Elvis jumpsuit, go for something a little more modern, relevant, and creative.
They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery, so flaunt that love of music and become one of your idols this Halloween. From pop to hip hop, we've gathered a bunch of looks from the music industry for your costume inspiration.
And hey, if all else fails, draw a lightning bolt on your face and go as Bowie.
|Carly Rae Jepsen|
Like the Zooey Deschanel of Canadian pop, this girl is all about her bangs. You should be, too. Dress up in your best cutesy-sexy car-washing gear, or a sparkly romper. Seriously, that's about it. But if you want to bring a fun twist to this costume, go for the "Call Me Maybe" look... or should we say, "Call Me Maeby" look: curled hair, freckles, a "Hello My Name Is... Maeby" sticker, and a phone in your hand all night. Who doesn't love a good Arrested Development spin on just about anything?
|Prince and the Revolution win an AMA|
They don't call him the Purple One for nothing. For his iconic Purple Rain look, seek out black pants and a violet coat (or if you're crafty, you can dye your own) and pair them with a frilly white blouse. Draw on Prince's signature mustache with some eyeliner, and you're good to chase after your Apollonia for the evening. Or you could go for Prince's newest afro look, but this style chameleon may have just switched things up again.
Speaking of Prince, these days, his protege Andy Allo has her own distinctive and easy-to-assemble! look. Team a gray tank with a black leather jacket and pants. Recreate Andy's gorgeous locks with a small-barrelled curling iron (or if you're lazy, a trip to the wig store) and pin the sides close to your head. Finish off her look with a smokey eye. Better yet, if you've got your very own Prince tagging along, you two can match your outfits.
This Aussie blonde packs a punch with her trademark platinum ponytail. Choose Technicolor bustier or crop top and pull on some leggings or a body-con skirt. Paint Iggy's cat eyes on with ultra-black liquid liner and finish the look with a fire engine-red lip.
See above. Just kidding. This hollaback girl burst onto the scene way before Iggy, and she's got a whole arsenal of styles throughout the years from today's retro-with-a-twist look to her sporty look in No Doubt's "I'm Just a Girl" video.
