We Are the Willows tour diary, Vol. 24
Howdy! My name is Peter Michael Miller and I play in a band called, We Are The Willows. We recently went on a short tour through out the Midwest and here's the dramatic second installment of our tour diary.
Leaving Madison was like being that guy who cut off his arm with a spoon in the jungle...you know, like the movie with Eddie Murphy? Wait, that's not it... anywho we drove to another one of our favorite places, Sheboygan, WI and to one of our favorite joints, Paradigm Coffee House. Kate and co. make some of the best food that'll put ya in a food coma and are some of the nicest folks.. that'll put ya in a... nice person coma. It was a sleepy weeknight and that fact was evident in us and in the room. Folks were quiet and attentive but it was hard to know if they were diggin' the tunes. But all in all, it was a nice night. Stephen thought so.
The next morning we went for a long walk on the beach of lake Michigan. Jeremiah practiced balancing and Leah took some snap shots with her disposable camera.
One of the nice things about routing a tour with dates super close together is that there is plenty of time to get from one place to the other. We had lots of gas station hang out sessions. We solved all the world's problems during those times.
Our show in Chicago was super fun. It was a Halloween Costume party and, if I do say so myself, which I do, because I am about to, we kicked ass with our costumes. We came as old folgee retirees. Okay... I guess its not that great of an idea... but I bought a walker!
We spent a little time hanging out in Chicago then made our way to Peoria, Illinois, another one of our favorite places. (I feel like I'm starting to sound like Oprah. Look under your chair. I left some moisturizer and some salt water taffy under it.) We played at my pal Steve's house and as usual, we played with really talented people and it was a stellar time.
We had a busy day ahead of us in Champaign-Urbana. We had to get to the University of Illinois for an interview with the folks at Pizza FM. They hosted us for a super fun pizza eating interview.
Then we drove across town for an interview at WPCD 88.7. Travis wondered what kind of dirty Irish jokes he would tell.
It was great to have such a productive day and to have other opportunities to contribute to our show being a success. We had to get to Mike n' Molly's right away after the interview for load in and our pal Isaac who booked and promoted the show greeted us like family. His band Evil Tents played the show with us and the whole night was stupendous.
We made a lot of new friends and had a killer time playing. We stayed at Isaac's loft and fell asleep to Monty Python episodes.
The next day we had a tremendous nine hour drive home that was full of dirty jokes, killer tunes, and plans for the future. Its incredibly fortunate to be motivated by an extremely positive experience as opposed to a negative one. In tours past, I had dozens of blunders that left me thinking, "Well shit, I never want that to happen again." Consequentially I'd take appropriate steps to try and ensure that those blunders didn't happen again. This tour left me thinking something more like, "How do we make that happen again...or all the time?". All that to say, we had the best of times. More travel stories to come,
