Anyone who found themselves plopped down in front of the radio this past weekend could've happened upon a NPR story about Princess, a new female-fronted covers act that plays the hits of Prince. This new purple project is fronted by former Saturday Night Live not-for-prime-time player Maya Rudolph and her college pal Gretchen Liberum.

Back in September, the pair got hooked up with a slot on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and performed "Darling Nikki" in convincing fashion, and they also did a live set in Brooklyn. By the way, Fallon's house band, the Roots is their backing band -- which should come as no surprise given ?uestlove's noted fandom for the purple one himself.
According to the All Things Considered interview, Prince knows about Princess, but hasn't sent any cease and desist notices Rudolph's way. "He thinks we're funny," she says. Listen to the piece here.
