After a wild ride, Nicholas David's journey on The Voice came to a close last night. The Minnesota-native came in third place on NBC's reality singing show behind Scottish rocker Terry McDermott and winner Cassadee Pope.

Before the final elimination of the show, David sang "Cruisin'" alongside Smokey Robinson. With a decidedly more relaxed take on the song, in comparison to the high-energy performances from the previous night, David looked comfortable onstage jamming with the music legend. And that's exactly the David that won over audiences with his surprisingly sweet, sometimes gritty voice, and his passion for singing.

Out of over 60 contestants on the show, David nailed his songs week after week and eventually grew into more of a stage presence along the way. While his last attempts to grab the title were on fire (literally), they weren't enough to beat out young pop singer Pope. Despite his loss, David's story inspired many, and in some ways he really was the epitome of what The Voice is about.

Though David may not have fit the cookie-cutter reality show "look" that so many contestants attempt from the day one, he won over Cee Lo Green with his heartfelt rendition of "Stand By Me" during the blind auditions. Throughout the competition, his unique style brought a funky sense of personality and flair to his performances, but never detracted from his sensational vocals--which consistently earned praise from the judges week after week.

Though Green's team did not walk away with the title this season, David can rest assured that he's won over his coach and many, many new fans. "I'm forever a fan of yours," said Green after David's fiery performance on Monday night's show. With a fan base that got his spirited versions of various songs throughout the season into the iTunes top ten charts, we hope he'll have offers to start performing around the Twin Cities again in bigger venues already waiting for him.

After preparing for the birth of his third child with his longtime girlfriend, as documented in his homecoming segment on The Voice, what's next for David? Coming back to his new home, it seems a lot of doors have opened up for the new celebrity, but we have a feeling that in some ways he'll still be the down-to-earth, family-loving, soulful singer from Minnesota we love to listen to.

He is so cool! I can't wait to see him play shows in Minnesota. He definitely deserved to be in the top two, but I am still thrilled he made it as far as he did.
